Q: How is it possible to allot large play time and free work while still abiding by today's standards of day to day content? Also, how would you pace a lesson plan if you wish to let students learn at their own pace?
U: I understand that children need to do tasks themselves and repeatedly to fully grasp the concepts behind them. I feel that this is the only way I learn new tasks too!
O: While volunteering in a 3rd grade classroom, the teacher always kept her class full of art and fresh flowers. There were designated centers throughout the room for specific tasks throughout the day. The students seemed cheerful and happy to move around throughout the day.
T: I will treasure using observation of my students and their needs to plan out my lesson plans and curriculum to the best of my ability. I do believe that everyone learns differently and learning to spot areas where some students may need further assistance or challenges is a great tool.
E: Some easy applications would be child sized furniture and tools as well as providing supplies within reach of my students for easy accessibility.
(Responding to "U"): I think sometimes it can be easy to do things for kids - I know it can seem like the most efficient way to get things done when I'm working with kids. But I have to remember, just like you said, doing something myself again and again is the best way for me to learn and it's best for the kids too!
ReplyDeleteI like your question about how do we allow free time and play while still abiding by the standards. I think free time and play are extremely important to have, especially for younger children.
