Car of Theorists

Body – Dewey is like the body of the car because he is one of the theorists I agreed with most and I felt he was like the base for how I think about education. He provides the structure.

Manual Stick Shift – Piaget believed that children go through stages of development like how a car must shift through the gears.

Car seat – Montessori believed in making things accessible to children such as child-sized tools and objects for them. The car seat is adjustable and can fit the child.

Radio – Vygotsky believed in social interaction and although you can’t converse with the radio, a person does listen to it and can be exposed to new ways of thinking and learn about current events or what not. The radio involves listening much like Vygotsky believed that children should listen to one another.

Steering Wheel – Kohlberg is like the steering wheel because he focuses on morality. The steering wheel guides your car and where you are going much like a person’s morals and values guide and steer them in the right direction.

Fuzzy Dice/Steering Wheel Cover – Erikson is like the various car accessories that people go through during their life. Sometimes a person wants big dice to hang and then they move through stages and begin to find new ways to express themselves. It’s a bit like Erikson’s stages and finding one’s autonomy.

  1. Nicole, fantastic job on incorporating all of the theorists to a car! Not an easy feat :) I especially liked the fuzzy dice metaphor, as sometimes I want my car blingy. I think it is important as educators to give support to children to feel confident during all their stages, from fuzzy dice to their graduation tasel.
